Pageant History
The Miss
Helotes Pageant began in the late 1960’s. Local
Helotes Girls compete for a spot on the court and a chance to
represent Helotes around the area towns and festivals. The
first few years saw the production produced at Floore’s
Country Store. It moved to Helotes Elementary School
then to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. As it grew and
as scholarships were added to the winner’s packages, larger
areas were needed to stage the event. The Pageant moved to
John Marshall High School, to Taft High School, to the
University of Texas at San Antonio, and finally to its present home at
O’Connor High School.
Over the years, several
dedicated local ladies have worked hard to bring this
Pageant to the point that participation is a coveted life
experience for young ladies from 9th grade through 12th
grade. The
scholarships and other prizes added to the package is
another incentive for participation.
The Pageant has always
been elegantly presented and outshines other local pageant
presentations. The success of the Pageant has provided many
accomplished young ladies who are successful in their lives
and careers.
